Specialist in Residual Stress Measurements &
Production of Measuring Systems
The drilling resistance depends on the characteristics of the materials, the method used to decompose and the maintenance carried out in time.
The measurement of the resistance to drilling is fundamental to measure the state of decomposition of the rock materials, construction materials and mortars, particularly in the field of cultural heritage.
In a few words, for drilling resistance, we mean the force necessary to drill the material
Measuring the drilling resistance, we can quantify the consolidating effect and the penetration depth of a consolidating product.
DRMS CORDLESS: System for determining the Drilling Resistance of materials
The DRMS (Drilling Resistance Measurement System) is an automatic system patented, produced and developed by SINT Technology srl.
As a device for the drilling resistance measurement, it is designed to measure the force necessary to drill a material: it measure the resistance of stone materials, marbles and other natural stones, construction materials like mortars and bricks.
The system is also able to measure
Actual drill position
It works with diamond drills: rotation and penetration speed are kept constant during testing and they can be continuously regulated between minimum and maximum values.
The DRMS Cordless can be used both in lab and on site: many applications related to the cultural heritage and several test are periodically made to check the status of resistance of construction materials, especially before, during or after preservation treatments. In those special cases, the DRMS records the resistance profile of the first layer of a stone material (up to 50 mm depth) and is able to evaluate the consolidating effect and the penetration depth of the consolidating product.
Why the DRMS Cordless is perfect for “on-site” measurement
It can evaluate consolidating treatments, in terms of depth and strength
IPossibility to perform drilling tests in any direction (drilling down, drilling up, horizontal drilling).
IIt is a fully portable and stand-alone system: it is light (5.5 kg) andeasy to use in scaffolding.
IIt is battery operated (14 V).
IThere is a USB connection between the electronic microdrilling device and the laptop computer.
ILoad cell for the drilling force measurement (Max. Force 100 N)
ISpecial diamond drills are used to minimize the abrasivity effect. The standard drill diameter is 5 mm.
IIt has been developed under the DIAS European Project.
During every test, rotation speed (20-1000 RPM) and penetration rate (5-80 mm/min) are kept constant.
