The MTS3000- Restan is a fully automatic system to determine residual stresses by the hole-drilling strain-gage method.
It has been developed by SINT Technology and it is available to order at our laboratory.
The MTS3000 – Restan has been design to measure residual stresses into metals and other kinds of materials, both on lab than on site. It is fully equipped with a set of accessories and spare parts: turbines and drills, connection cables, set of tools, software protection key, dial gages, manometer and pressure regulator with air filter, manuals and software installation CD.
The main SYSTEM is composed by a mechanical – optical fixture and an electronic device and it is provided also with a small computer or tablet PC including pre-installed software.
One of the main features of Restan MTS-3000 is the High speed drilling capacity (up to 400,000 rpm), which avoid to introduce more residual stresses during the testing process. In any case, different types of drills are available based on the properties of the material that you need to test.
Before to start a test, there are a few operation you have to pay attention, even if software installation and system connection are very easy: by plugging some cables and turning on the system, you will be able to start.
The optical microscope is the main tool to center the equipment with the strain gage: the alignment-drilling unit is the main part of the system because it is used to physically drill the hole.
Morover, another key feature of Restan MTS-3000 is that you can choose some custom parameters before to start the test: total depth, number of steps and their distribution, material properties, type of strain gage and amplifier, delay time between the steps.
Once test is complete, acquired data can be processed using the EVAL 8 analysis software, the evolution of Eval 7, developed by SINT Technology.
Those software have been projected including other studies developed by many research centers during the time: standard ASTM E837, Integral method and Differential method .
EVAL 8 software, has been been updated in 2024: the standard algorithms are improved with additional features and a better graphical overview including a further database of strain gage rosettes and materials.
Moreover this model is able to provide a further analysis of the residual stress field that improves even more the standard residual stress analysis: a new theoretical algorithm with a more powerful calculation process and with the possibility to correct the main sources of uncertainty of this method has been introduced: HDM .
EVAL 8 software is fully compliant to the new version of the ASTM E837 standard and it is an essential tool for all residual stress analysis.
